Care Types

There are two primary levels of care within aged care facilities - Low Care and High Care. In addition to these two levels of care Regis offers a range of services catering to individual needs such as Premium Additional Services, Dementia Care, Palliative Care, Community Care and Respite Care.

Individual facilities will cater to differing combinations of these levels of care.

All aged care residences, no matter what level of care they cater to, must provide a specified range of care and services to residents. These services include:

  • Staff to provide help at all times, including in emergency situations;
  • Assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, showering, dressing and mobility;
  • Assistance with medications;
  • Meals and refreshments, taking into account special dietary needs;
  • Basic furnishings including carpets, curtains, chairs, beds and bed linen, towels, face washers, soap and toilet paper;
  • Laundry service, cleaning services and building and garden maintenance; and
  • Social activities.

Low Care
GeneralShot22

Low care residences or hostels, as they used to be known, provide not only accommodation but assistance with personal care needs such as dressing, showering, mobility, eating, medication and rehabilitation support. Low care residences provide the level of support that you need or require to continue to live as independently as possible.

Low care includes accommodation, meals, laundry and 24 hour on-call staff support.

High Care
GeneralShot10 High care residences or nursing homes provide care for those with a greater degree of frailty, who often need continuous nursing care. High care residents receive assistance with daily tasks such as administration of medication, toileting, eating, bathing and communication where needed.

High care services also include such things as continence aids, basic medical and pharmaceutical supplies, nursing services and therapy services.

Premium Additional Service
GeneralShot11

Premium Additional Service or Extra Service enables residents to purchase higher levels of personal comfort and more individual lifestyle preferences, like larger rooms, broader menu choices, cable television and wine with meals.

Premium Additional Services are available to both high and low care residents.

Dementia Care
GeneralShot13

Dementia care provides targeted services, specialised staff and facilities to support residents with early to advanced stages of dementia. Regis provides separate dementia-specific units for those most in need of that little extra security.

Dementia specific care is available for both high and low care residents.

Palliative Care
GeneralShot18 Palliative care offers sensitive support to residents with life-limiting illnesses. We provide comfort and quality of life by looking after the physical, emotional, cultural, social and spiritual needs of the resident, their family and their carers.

Community Care
Home and Community3 Community Care encompasses a range of support services, which help people living at home with daily or weekly living activities. Community Care is available for both high and low care residents. To find out more about this service please see RegisCare.

Respite Care
GeneralShot16 Residential respite care provides short-term care and support for people whose carers are unable to meet usual care arrangements or if someone is ill and needs an extra level of temporary support. People living alone may also benefit from respite care.

Respite care is available for those with an ACAT assessment for up to 63 days per financial year. Respite care is available for both high and low care residents.
