Regis Burnside Lodge - Linden Park
6 Booth Avenue
Linden Park South Australia 5065
Imagine a residence with its own
1950s style 'milk bar' with printed tablecloths and lace curtains
that plays records and serves free milkshakes all summer. Then
imagine this cute little spot transformed into a cosy caf serving
big mugs of piping hot soup during winter. Both represent real life
at Regis Burnside Lodge.
This gem of an idea, along with
many others, came from our staff. A fabulous group of people, who
support great initiatives and as a result, accomplish even better
things for our residents.
We spend a lot of time and effort
making every aspect of Burnside Lodge lovely, from our tree-shaded
gardens where residents love to sit, stroll and entertain, to
innovative attractions like our men's shed.
This special 'retreat' evolved from
an original idea our staff had to create a working environment
where our men could make and create. Then our male residents
reminded us that they are retired, and they'd rather have a place
to relax. So we decked out the shed with a pool table, posters of
cars on the walls and a DVD player for watching westerns and sport.
It even has a bar.
The place continues to be a
sure-fire hit. A particularly delightful outcome is how it
enlivened one of our dementia care residents. This resident, who
rarely ever interacted, suddenly started potting balls on the pool
table like a champion, which it turned out he once was. Now he
teaches everyone, including the school children who come for
community service.
The men's shed opened on St
Patrick's Day with green beer and a belly dancer. Everyone loved
it, so much so that by request, the dancer now runs exercise
classes for our high care resident ladies!
The same group of ladies also
instigated a visit from two Harley Davidson motorbikes with
sidecars. Everyone enjoyed a spin, including residents in our
secure dementia unit.
Of course, we offer everything else
you'd expect of a quality residence as well. Carpet bowls, bingo,
visits to the local library and all sorts of music, including
singers and bands. We have our own consecrated church onsite which
conducts regular non-denominational services. There are regular
visits from health professionals, hairdressers, pedicurists and
manicure services. Plus excursions galore, like trips to Hahndorf
and the Adelaide Hills.
Closer to home are our coffee and
shopping outings to Burnside Village. Residents are always hunting
for something special. At the moment its new knitting patterns, in
preparation for our forthcoming end-of-year fete. Our ladies are
knitting and cooking away, with staff helping them create old
fashioned favourites; gooseberry jam, pickled onions and pasties
made from their grandmother's recipes.
Residents from our secure dementia
unit are currently organising a special gala ball complete with
brass band and decorations that show off our beautiful hall, which
looks like a set from the Pirates of Penzance.
Burnside Lodge is all about
interaction, from big occasions to the smallest details, like our
residents who love picking and arranging the flowers which grow so
profusely in our gardens.
Burnside Lodge residents are also
able to take advantage of the following services on offer:
- regular church service
