Regis Elloura Lodge - Nedlands
118-120 Monash Avenue
Nedlands Western Australia 6009
Regis Elloura Lodge has a charm and
personality all of its own. Some of this character emanates from
the building itself but most comes from our wonderful people - our
lively low care residents and their thoroughly dedicated
carers.
Visitors sense the atmosphere the
second they walk in the door. There's conversation and activity
galore. And no wonder, because there's always something going on,
whether it's the three daily activities that involve our residents
or the seemingly endless number of other pastimes. Like newspaper
reading, our bridge club and very boisterous bingo. There's a
regular book exchange program provided by the local library and a
regular parade of performers visiting to entertain us.
Recent concerts include a debonair
gentleman who crooned Frank Sinatra songs on Valentines Day and our
St Patrick's Day celebrations which were enlivened by rollicking
Celtic music from a local Irish band.
Parties are just as musical. We're
currently planning one with an Abba theme and can't wait to see
what every guest wears for their costume. Many dress-up costumes
are actually made by our residents. They excelled themselves
recently for our rock and roll party, turning out in Elvis Presley
style attire including big bright skirts matched with bobby socks
and ponytails.
These events are made especially
social because they give us a chance to mix everyone from Elloura
Lodge and our sister residence, Weston Lodge, which shares the
site. The two places actually share a series of buildings,
including a day therapy centre, a small supermarket and a
hairdressing salon. Taken together, we make up quite a colourful
little village.
One of the highlights of our day
therapy centre is its café. This popular meeting place enables
residents to walk here from their own building, so it feels just
like visiting a cafe at the local shops, without the need to
venture onto the streets. Residents wile away hours here, chatting
or doing puzzles with staff to help keep their memories sharp.
Elloura Lodge and Weston Lodge
residents also share outings in our bus, especially regular
shopping trips. For our latest excursion we left the bus behind and
took the new train to Mandurah and back.
We also have a small flower and
herb garden which doubles as a sensory garden. Residents love
pottering here and we now include it an optional activity so the
greenery gets the treatment it deserves.
Another popular feature of Elloura
Lodge, certainly where our men are concerned, is the snooker table.
It has pride of place in our internal garden area and keen players
gather around it every Monday for their regular 'pool shoot' with
equally dedicated staff members.
Of course, Elloura Lodge offers
just as many pleasures for our lady residents. Like our skilful
group of knitters who create all manner of wonderful garments to
the delight of fellow residents and family members. Our girls
particularly love their regular pampering service which lets them
unwind over manicures and makeup.
The more clinical extension of
pampering is our very successful pain management clinic. This daily
occasion uses massage and heat packs to help alleviate issues
associated with persistent pain.
That said, there's nothing quite
like delicious ice-creams to take your mind off things. Which is
why the ice-cream round, every Friday afternoon in summer is such a
melt-in-the-mouth treat.
Speaking of treats, Elloura Lodge
provides a generous choice of cuisine, from salads and sandwiches
to an array of hot meals and our regular Friday night fish and
chips indulgence. Our kitchen team offers seasonal menus and caters
to specific dietary and cultural requirements. But their piece de
resistance is creating lovely signature dishes for special
occasions, like dainty chocolate hearts on Valentine's Day.
