Architectural elegance doesn't come
more disarming than the beautiful historic presence of Regis Sunset
Lodge.
This heritage-listed double storey
building in leafy Kingswood has all the attributes of a bygone age.
A lofty sense of space accentuated by its high ceilings, a sweeping
staircase with detailed mahogany finishes and an old world feeling
of peace and tranquillity.
In fact, if you look closely at the
paintings on the walls, you'll realise that the stately homestead
they depict is the very same place. Sunset Lodge was once
Harling House, the charming private home of a wealthy
19th century merchant. This charm is still here in the
welcoming smiles of staff and residents, and in the friendly banter
coming from communal rooms.
The experience and dedication of our
staff - many of whom have been with us for between 20 and 30 years
- plays a big part in maintaining this charm, and explains why we
are so popular with families looking for somewhere, which genuinely
feels like home.
Sunset Lodge is right nearby Mitcham
Shopping Centre. Such proximity puts every convenience within easy
walking (with a frame) distance, including a pleasant hotel for
lunches, a cinema, bistros, food and fashion shops aplenty.
For journeys further afield there is
a bus stop right outside our door, and the city centre is only 15
minutes away. Our own bus takes low and high care residents on
regular excursions to an array of destinations, including city
beaches, the Adelaide Hills and Victor Harbor. On a seasonal note,
residents particularly enjoy seeing the Christmas lights in
heritage towns like Lobethal.
For lifestyle at home, Sunset Lodge
is proud to have instigated a new program of pain management, which
is now being implemented around Australia. The program provides
various effective initiatives including physio and physio aids like
hot packs, grips and TENS machines.
To date, 90 percent of our high care
residents and 80 percent of our low care residents are benefiting
from the program. Some who previously registered pain at an
unmanageable level, (level 10), have had it cut drastically to a
manageable level 3. Such reductions contribute greatly to improved
quality of life.
And there's no shortage of this at
Sunset Lodge. Our garden club members are always on the go,
planting flowers, fruit and vegetables into special waist-high
planter beds. Their enthusiasm and assistance contributes to our
beautiful rose gardens and large shady trees. Sunset Lodge's
acre-large property is enclosed by an unobtrusive new fence with
keypad security at its entrances.
We enjoy many concerts, including
performances by local school children. Residents get foot-tapping
with fortnightly chair line dancing and petting during canine
companion visits.
Our guided walking groups stroll
around the neighbourhood, which is ideally flat and threaded with
beautiful deciduous trees. We all adore seeing the spectacular
change of seasons weave a myriad of colours around us. Such
breathtaking beauty is symbolic of the vibrancy of living at Sunset
Lodge.
Sunset Lodge residents are also able
to take advantage of the following services on offer:
- regular church service
- massage therapy
- on-site hairdressing and beauty therapy
- volunteer program
- home-style cooked meals catering to specialist dietary
needs
Residents receive all the benefits
of the Regis Group's living care model of responsive support
provided by leading professionals and tailored to individual
medical, cultural and religious preferences.
