Regis and Retirement Care Australia merger progresses to the next phase.

The merger between the Regis Group (Regis) and, Macquarie Capital Alliance Group, parent entity of Retirement Care Australia (RCA) has proceeded as planned on July 2, 2007.

The merged group, known as Regis, is the largest Australian owned aged care service provider and benefits from more than 70 years combined experience of the existing management team. The expanded portfolio of 37 sites comprises 10 in Queensland, 6 in New South Wales, 14 in Victoria, 2 in South Australia and 5 in Western Australia.

The merged group is the second largest private aged care operator in Australia with over 3,600 beds across 37 sites. Based on the planned and current development pipeline this is expected to increase over the next three years to 41 facilities in five states and 4,500 beds.

Executive Chairman of Regis Group Pty Ltd, Mr Bryan Dorman, said that both Regis and RCA share similar cultures, philosophies and commitment to the provision of high quality aged care and accommodation.

"This partnership creates an organisation with a national focus that will have the community's confidence in its role as a provider of excellent aged care services and accommodation and as a high quality employer. This is an important milestone for the two organisations with a strong strategic fit and will create a positive impact within the aged care industry to the benefit of many elderly Australians."

"Regis has operated in the aged care sector for over 15 years and has worked hard to develop a reputation that is synonymous with quality care, well equipped buildings and facilities, and as a trusted member of the communities in which we operate."

"RCA has also pursued this ideal and together, as one consolidated group, I believe we can make a significant difference to how aged care is perceived in Australia, but more importantly, in the delivery of those services to our residents," Mr Dorman said.

The merger delivers significant benefits in administration, technology, the provision of accommodation and services for Regis' current residents as well as significant new and exciting employment and career opportunities for its staff.

The first stage of an orderly transition period between Regis and the former RCA facility managers TriCare and the Moran Healthcare Group, took place on September 3, 2007.

Operational management of five facilities previously ran by the Moran Health Care Group passed to Regis in Victoria, Western Australia and Queensland, on Monday September 3, 2007.

A further six facilities based in New South Wales transitioned over operations on Monday October 1, 2007.

The remaining facilities formerly managed by the TriCare Group transitioned to Regis Management on Friday February 1, 2008.

Some of the key changes that took place as part of the transition include:

• New reporting protocols for Facility Managers and staff, with all parties accountable to Regis State Management Teams;

• Regis assuming lead responsibility for all liaison with the federal Department of Health and Ageing;

• Regis assuming responsibility for communications and marketing, as well as management of essential property services.

Please note: All existing residents' agreements are remaining in place and staff will continue their day to day work at their facilities on the existing terms and conditions.

During the course of the next 12 months all the RCA homes will be renamed, and will become known as Regis residences, until such time however, all standard protocols will continue, and the key contact details for each home will remain the same.
