Every second Wednesday Regis Ringwood aged care home welcomes residents, families, staff and local Italian community members to the dance floor. The theme is an Italian Fiesta style event with traditional folk music, vibrant dance moves and palpable jubilation from attendees.
Our Ringwood aged care facility cares for nine Italian residents with a strong sense of cultural heritage. Residents at Ringwood enjoy a special afternoon Italian tea once a month as well as Italian culinary choices.
Lifestyle coordinator Iga commented, “The Italian Fiesta is very popular with Italian residents –they are engaged, stimulated, smiling and conversing with each other. We have some residents who generally don’t participate in activities who, as soon as they hear the Italian music, come singing and dancing.”
This popular lifestyle activity is one of many programs and therapies at Ringwood which also features PARO therapy, Tai Chi classes, extensive activities based on allied healthcare specialist Health Strong resources, and day excursions to keep residents interacting and stimulated.
Staff recently organised a daytrip to Lilydale Lake with eight residents delighting in short walks, people watching and afternoon tea. The tranquil setting saw residents engage with each in an environment where they can socialise, reminisce and take in the surrounding nature. Our wonderful lifestyle team organises trips each month with previous visits including Silvan Dam, Warrandyte River and 1000 Steps.
