Regis Burnside Lodge residents are avid music lovers. As such the music therapy class at the Adelaide based aged care facility has been running for the last 12 months and looks to continue with a strong and dedicated group of attendees.
This class run by Helen, a dedicated volunteer and music expert, takes place once a week and gives the facilities many music lovers a chance to play musical instruments such as drums, maracas, music sticks and more.
Helen says the focus of these sessions is to help reduce anxiety and tensions which some residents can experience. Class attendees are given an instrument and play the rhythms of the days of the week, months of the year, favourite food, hobbies – which usually results in much reminiscing from participants and a creative mix of music notes.
The class is very popular and has thrived with residents looking forward to the weekly opportunity to create their own musical symphonies.
