Regis Blackburn – Precautionary COVID-19 response

Dear Families,

We have been advised this morning that one of our Regis Blackburn staff members has been in close contact with a member of their household who has today tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member has done the right thing and let us know. As a result, they will remain away from work until they receive a negative test result.

The staff member is organising testing and we expect the result to be available within a day or so. We will advise you when the result becomes available. The last shift they worked before becoming aware of their close contact was on Tuesday 4 August 2020. We have notified the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) who are on standby until the results are returned.

Our Incident Command team take this very seriously and as a precaution, effective immediately, we are implementing our Outbreak Management Plan. All staff will be in additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at the Home to reduce any possible transmission and we are undertaking additional touch point cleaning to ensure the highest level of safety in the Home.

We have communicated this information to all residents and will also distribute letters to them. In this communication, we have requested that all residents remain in their rooms until we have a better understanding of the risk to keep them safe. We have put in place a modified lifestyle program and adapted our catering to a room service model.

This level of precaution will remain in place until the staff member’s test result is known. If our staff member is COVID-19 positive, then we will call all primary contacts and follow our Outbreak Management Plan and the instructions of the DHHS and Public Health Unit. These precautions will remain in place in accordance with any guidance from the DHHS. Residents and staff at Blackburn will be tested every few days to ensure no further infection has occurred.

Our team will be in touch via email over coming days to make sure you are kept up to date. In the event that this situation does escalate, Regis has comprehensive plans in place for the management of an outbreak.

Our priority at this time is the safety and well-being of all residents.

Best wishes,

Linda Mellors
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
