Regis Wynnum officially opened “Myrtles Potting Shed” on 25th May 2018 in honour of Myrtle, a former resident who loved orchids and pottering. Myrtle came to Regis in 2010 and lived there until October 2017.
Born in Toowoomba, Myrtle was the youngest of 12 children. At 13, she moved to live on a farm with her sister where she had many roles one of which was to dig a dam by hand! Myrtle later moved back to Toowoomba and in 1943 she became an assistant scout master with the 2nd Toowoomba Cub Pack, later progressing to 1st Toowoomba Cub Master. Myrtle had many interests including camping, ballroom dancing (she was a ballroom dance teacher for 30 years) and gardening. When moving into Regis, she made her own space on site to pot orchids.
Setting up a potting shed at the facility will bring immense benefits to our residents including companionship, enjoying the outdoors and the fulfilment of watching nature grow.
