PARO creator Mr Shibata Visits Melbourne Aged Care Home

Regis Dandenong North aged care home recently welcomed Mr Takanori Shibata the creator of PARO the therapeutic robotic harp seal. PARO is an advanced interactive robot or Carebot designed to interact and stimulate patients with dementia and other cognition disorders.

All Regis aged care facilities currently use PARO as part of their commitment to wellness and innovative care therapies. Since the introduction of Regis’ PARO therapy program in 2015 our clinical staff observed a significant reduction in challenging behaviours sometimes as high as 70% when PARO is introduced as well as a positive increase in social interactions often over 76%.

Regis National Lifestyle Manager Tim Phillips comments, “We’ve seen marked improvements as a direct result of PARO therapy. For instance, in July on occasions were residents experienced restlessness there was a strong positive improvement of 80% were we saw behaviours were either reduced or stopped completely.”

Mr Takanori Shibata was delighted to learn about Regis’ PARO therapy program positive results during his visit and praised Regis’ efforts to use the Carebots to help support those in aged care.

Regis is the largest consumer of the PARO in the world purchasing our first PARO in 2014 and is committed to leading the way to improve care therapies that show strong benefits for our residents.

A resident at Regis Cranbourne affectionately embraces PARO.
