The management of Regis Sunraysia, Aged Care Home, is pleased to advise that no residents, staff or visitors were injured by a fire in the kitchen area of the home this afternoon. One resident and staff member have attended the Mildura Hospital for further observation. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Staff acted quickly to evacuate all residents to safe zones in the grounds of the home while the incident was brought under control and an initial safety inspection carried out.
A number of residents have being relocated to appropriate temporary accommodation this afternoon. The remaining residents were able to stay in their home, which was not affected by the incident. Management is ensuring that all necessary catering and care services will be delivered without interruption.
