Regis Update to South Australian Families

Dear Families,

I hope you are all safe and well. I am writing to advise you that in line with the South Australian Government’s most recent Residential Aged Care Facilities COVID-19 Direction, we will be implementing additional infection control measures effective from Thursday 27 August 2020.

From tomorrow, our personal care staff are only permitted to work at one residential aged care facility with the purpose of minimising the threat of COVID-19 across the aged care sector in South Australia. We have consulted with all staff to identify where they will work while this government direction is in place and those who have additional employment elsewhere were encouraged to choose to work at Regis. We have ensured that this will not affect the continuity of your loved ones’ care. We will continue to support all staff in following infection control procedures in line with South Australian Government’s directives, including:

  • health screening of every staff member before each shift.
  • use of face masks when providing care;
  • regular and thorough hand hygiene;
  • physical distancing at all times;
  • increased touch point and deep cleaning.

As a visitor you are not required to wear face masks while present in our home, but you are most welcome to do so if you prefer. Visitation into Homes will remain restricted at two visitors at a time.

We ask that you continue to let Reception know of your intent to visit ahead of time so that we can maintain appropriate screening processes, including temperature checks and proof of your influenza vaccination. It is important that you follow all guidelines and requests from our employees. These are in place to keep our residents safe.

While these controls are in place, we will ensure that you are able to stay in touch with your loved one with alternative forms of communication, including FaceTime and phone calls. Our staff can coordinate this for you in the Home.

Our Homes will continue with a modified lifestyle program to support the health and wellbeing of our residents and encourage their engagement. The lifestyle program and dining services will continue to adhere to social distancing requirements.

Residents are able to leave the Home for community visits. However, when doing so they must sign a consent form confirming understanding of the directives from the South Australian Government, such as avoiding large gatherings. If the resident is unable to understand these directions, you may provide this consent on their behalf. Residents are also temperature checked upon departure and return to our home.

Our priority is the health and wellbeing of our residents and our staff, and we will continue to take precautions to keep our Homes safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Facility Manager or call Regis Advice on 1300 998 100 to be transferred through.

I would like to thank you for your continued support and understanding. Together we can continue to keep those in our care safe, supported and well.

Best wishes,

Linda Mellors
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
