Regis Sandringham – Precautionary COVID-19 response

Dear Families,

We have been advised today that one of our Regis Sandringham staff members has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the staff member will remain away from work until they are cleared to return.

The staff member will be tested for COVID-19 and we will advise you of the result, as soon as it becomes available. We have notified the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) who are on standby until the results are returned.

Our Incident Command team take this very seriously and as a precaution, effective immediately, we are implementing our Outbreak Management Plan. All staff will be in additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at the Home to reduce any possible transmission. Additional touch point cleaning has also been commenced to ensure the highest level of safety in the Home.

By the time you receive this letter, a member of our support team will have rung each resident’s primary contact to discuss any questions they may have. We have also communicated this information to all residents and will distribute letters to them. In this communication, we have requested they remain in their room until we have a better understanding of the risk as a safety precaution.

This level of precaution will remain in place until the staff member’s test result is known. If our staff member is COVID-19 positive, then we will follow our Outbreak Management Plan and the instructions of the DHHS and Public Health Unit.

We have put in place a modified lifestyle program and adapted our catering to a room service model. A number of window visits have already been organised for coming days. We will continue to book these in order to provide continuing connections with family members.

I know these are challenging times, especially while we wait for the test results to return. I encourage you to visit the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) website for information and comfort. Their website has a range of information in many languages. Older Australians, their families, friends and carers can call 1800 171 866 for extra support, or if they have questions about the COVID-19 restrictions.

We will be in touch via email in coming days to inform you of the staff member’s result. Rest assured our priority is the safety and well-being of all residents.

Best wishes,

Linda Mellors
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
