Letter to the editor
When my husband’s Alzheimer’s grew unmanageable, Regis homes were the best by far of the 15 sites I visited.
In three years of constant visiting, I have seen no such neglect and abuse at Regis Birkdale. Staff are cheerful, compassionate and patient, often in trying circumstances. Every effort is made to maintain residents’ dignity and to value differing personalities and stages of the disease.
A recent newspaper article stated that Regis pocketed $397M in government subsidies last year. These subsidies are determined by the Government, not by Regis, and are vital. Without them, as pensioners, we would have had no opportunity of accessing care.
As for the ‘seven figure salaries’ of the bosses of such nursing homes, let us look no further than companies that pay even bigger amounts and make huge profits without aiding one person to live with the support they need. Or to the perks of politicians that have no other outcome other than greed and selfishness.
No doubt a royal commission is needed to target the bad guys, but please do not categorise all facilities with sweeping accusations.

Regis Rosebud, VIC
In light of the recent aged care focus, I would like to say Regis Rosebud is very good across the board. Administration were always happy and helpful regarding my wife’s care and any Centrelink problems. The nurses are very caring and work well past their allocated duties. They looked after my late wife very well in her last days- top people: heartfelt thanks to all. The meals were good and the social aspect excellent. The cleaners always gave a smile and a hearty greeting- they were the right people for the job. Finally, the two good chaps in maintenance do an excellent job around Regis. They have even helped me many times with the Shirlanka Gear charity. Thank you all.
Heartfelt thanks to all

To all the amazing staff at Regis, thanks for looking after mum.
We will never forget your kindness towards her. Please reflect on how you have helped make the last 6 years really comfortable for her. We have appreciated everything you’ve done.

The saddest moment is when you know your loved ones need extra care, but happier moments are when you know they are being appropriately cared for, kept clean, safe and offered good food (even if they don’t eat much in my mother’s case) plus offered entertainment and company from both other residents and the staff.
I think a lot does depend on the facility chosen, situations can arise and it is up to residents and their families to have conversations. This is only fair for all parties and I know how easy it is to have conversations with all at Regis Salisbury.
Keep up the good work and I will always defend and recommend Regis Salisbury.
Regis Port Macquarie, NSW
My wife and I have been close friends of Pat Byron who has been a resident of Regis Port Macquarie since 2013. Sadly Pat passed away on 2nd September. We would like you to know that all the staff treated her with dignity and respect. Their tireless dedication has been without exception as we have witnessed on our weekly visits to see her.
My wife remained at her bedside for two full days prior to her passing and again she was given helpful support and shown kindness during this time which was a stressful one for my wife. Our grateful thanks to all concerned.
Regis Ferny Grove, QLD
Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Regis Ferny Grove. Their care for our friend Maggie came at a difficult time, and was greatly appreciated.
Maggie felt immediately at home there, and was made welcome from Day One. Our questions were answered quickly and any concerns dealt with reasonably. Maggie felt like she was staying in a nice hotel; outside, the grounds and wildlife kept her entertained.
We would recommend Regis Ferny Grove to others.

Just wanted to express my heartfelt thanks to all at Regis. I moved my mum Margaret last September to Regis because I wanted her treated with dignity and respect and a better standard of care than what she was getting. My wish came true as Mum was introduced to her new family which was your staff.
The professionalism of your staff- and I mean ALL staff- that I was involved with was amazing, the kindness that was shared to me and my family the laughs and tears with all the stories good and bad and the cups of tea was so appreciated. I could not have asked for better care and love- so thank you.

Thank you for looking after our father George for the last two and a half years. He claimed that Dr Collier said he only had 6 months to live when he first arrived- I’m sure the dedicated team contributed to extending George’s stay. Thank you to the meal staff who knew the kind of food and drink George liked; to the laundry staff who would find lost garments and same day delivery ; staff who would set up the reading machine; the maintenance men who always came up with a solution to something that had broken for George; and the carers who were there when he needed them within minutes- saving George more pain than he suffered.
Thank you all who listened to the endless range of jokes that George had filed away for every occasion. Thanks for laughing even if you didn’t always get it.

It gives me absolute pleasure to express my sincere gratitude for the never-ending assistance the Regis team has offered our whole family in locating our mother in the facility. ALL staff contribute to a nurturing, positive, compassionate family environment. The food is excellent and plentiful.
Nothing is ever too much trouble!

This group is very helpful. It provides an escape from the stresses of the daily dealing with my mother’s sickness. Discussing daily challenges with others who have been through similar circumstances helps a lot.

I am writing to thank you for the wonderful attention and loving service given to my wife Margaret. I have nothing but praise and grateful thanks towards all staff.
If Margaret could speak now she would heap praise and give her thanks to those who cared for her and supported myself and my daughter.
I would unreservedly recommend Regis for quality and loving care for those that need the services provided.

My sister recently entered the facility which is very good in my and my wife’s opinion. We’ve had a look at other facilities and some of them I can’t see how some people can put their loved ones in those facilities. We are happy with the care, the food, the activities and definitely the people at Regis.

My dad’s 18 months at Regis was a positive experience in all respects and we couldn’t have asked for better care. The staff were loving, attentive and respectful. Thanks again for your help.

We would like to thank you all not only for your excellent care of our mother Dorothy, but also for making her feel so special on her recent birthday. Your care and attention has helped to make her feel comfortable in her new surroundings after being independent for so long.
Mum often comments that everyone is so lovely and friendly and she never hears a cross word or raised voice. We are so grateful for your cheerful assistance and care- you have all been so helpful and we appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I want to tell you how impressed I was by the Wynnum Family Day last week. I enjoyed all aspects of the day but was most impressed by the off duty staff who attended and offered assistance to any resident to ensure they could enjoy the day.
How lucky is Regis to have the calibre of staff you have at Wynnum.
Regis Armadale, VIC
Just a short note to commend your passionate caring staff (again), for organising and putting on a medieval concert on Sunday for the residents. For staff to come in on a Sunday without expecting payment, is a testament to their care and dedication. As a medical professional I frequently visit various aged care facilities and I know that it is rare for staff to be doing similar things on a weekend elsewhere.
Your staff who willingly give up their time, I am sure have the unfailing gratitude of the residents and their families and I am once again so glad my mother is in your care.
Regis East Malvern, VIC
First of all, from all the Mitchell Family we would like to wish Regis East Malvern a very Happy 1st Birthday and many happy returns. Mum was so full of joy, and lively in her description of the celebrations and with animation said “there will never be another one like it!” Several weeks later she is still talking about the Birthday celebrations – it clearly made a profound impression and associated with terrific positive emotions, and memories have been made.
We’d like to thank each and every staff member for this day and everyday for helping to give our Mum happy, meaningful days and experiences at this time in her life. We ALL could not be happier with Mum’s move to Regis East Malvern.
Just on a side note we would like to congratulate all the staff for their friendliness, their readiness to smile and their enthusiasm – I think this has been such a key factor in how quickly Mum has settled in, feeling safe, cared for and respected and just plain ‘happy’.

Dear Club Services Manager,
Thank you from all of us for making tonight such a pleasure. The room is tastefully decorated and well presented. The food is tasty and appropriate, the wine just right.
The option of private dining is a feature of the Regis experience we value highly and while we wouldn’t always expect your personal attention, it was very much appreciated tonight.

I often feel that we all too often are very quick to report dissatisfaction but rarely advise great experiences. There are few words that can truly express our extreme gratitude to all the Anchorage staff at every level for the kind, inclusive, professional and efficient care provided to my mother.
Mum has made friends, gotten involved in the activities and embraced this experience in part due to her own positive and determined attitude but more to the kindness and sense of home and family the facility has provided- not just towards mum, but our whole family.
Thank you Regis for welcoming and caring so well for my mum and our whole family.
Regis Wynnum, QLD
I wanted to pass a compliment to the staff of Regis. Today I visited my uncle and aunt, Cliff and Eunice, who reside at Regis. I was very impressed with the lovely modern facilities and the spacious comfort.
I had not seen them for 12 months and found my uncle and aunt looked settled, healthier and happier since I last saw them. It is obvious that they are very well cared for, and treated with kindness and respect from all the friendly and caring staff.

Our families would like to thank you for making our mother’s recent respite stay so pleasant.
From the moment Mum arrived she was made to feel very welcome and special. The level of care and concern for all was a pleasure to watch and a joy for our mother to experience. We had no sooner taken mum home, than she started singing the praises of everyone at Regis as well as how tasty the food was and how often she was fed!
Thank you for welcoming our family and friends who visited and took mum out. The process was easy and without drama. Some were even able to join Mum for lunch or a cuppa and cake.
Initially our mother was slow to join in with many activities but when she did she certainly enjoyed them. Being able to have her hair washed and set and have her nails done just added to Mum’s pleasure.
We would be happy to recommend Regis to anyone. Thank you for taking such good care of our mother – we shall be seeing you again in the not so distant future.

In remembrance of our father, I wanted to compliment your wonderful staff who were so supportive of our family especially the night staff on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, and Kris who was rostered on Easter Saturday. Their excellent and compassionate service made an awful time bearable.
With our thanks
Regis The Gap, QLD
The challenging decision to decide which facility we would place Barry (Dad) into became an easy one after the family visited numerous aged care centres. Regis The Gap exuded a happy and cheerful atmosphere that made us comfortable Barry would be moving into a positive and respectful environment. In turn, this environment was backed up by a wonderful team of dedicated staff who attended to and assisted Barry in any way they could. Everyone at Regis genuinely cared about Barry and how they could play their part in making his situation as comfortable as possible. If there were any concerns regarding Barry’s health or condition, I would receive a phone call immediately to update me as to what was happening and how his health concerns were being addressed. Everyone in the family drew comfort knowing Barry was well cared for. Thank you for all your support.

Please accept our gratitude to those who took the time to get to know and love our dad Darol Mansfield over his 5 years at Regis.
As a family, we know we were all over you! Our father was such a precious commodity to us that there really was no other way we could be. Thank you for accommodating ours and our Mother’s requests during the years.

What a beautiful day you created for Thelma’s 100th Birthday. Thelma enjoyed sharing her day with you and the residents. The cake was very special, the flowers were beautiful and the band played all her favourite songs- Thelma was overwhelmed by all the attention.
Shannon (Lifestyle Coordinator) made the day so special for Thelma through all her thoughtful work and outstanding effort.
On behalf of Thelma and the Walters family we thank you for your care, support and consideration over the past 5 years. We really appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules to celebrate a momentous occasion.

My mother Lily recently become a resident at Regis and has settled in better than expected.
This is due in part from the help and assistance of Facility Manager Gabrielle Hohl. Gabrielle addressed every concern, followed up any matters arising, and kept me informed.
I find Gabrielle to be very approachable and caring & she is definitely an asset to Regis. I work in the aged care sector and I know that people like Gabrielle are not easy to find.

Recently my father had the opportunity to use the respite facilities at Regis. Right from the first impressions we were impressed with the level of care and commitment. I particularly want to express gratitude to Tammy for all her help and follow up phone call after Dad had left, which was the nicest thing to happen for a long time.
It was a trying time for us with Mum in hospital and the family in NSW. The whole situation was fraught with emotion, tension and fear of the unknown. Everybody at Regis certainly made that a great deal less so.
We have only good things to say about Regis and would certainly recommend this establishment without reservation.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Regis for the care, consideration, support and compassion shown to my late mother in her time of three years at Regis.
I am grateful for all the support and professionalism shown to me over this time including financial matters.
Your organisation certainly does care for the individual and their family with what you offer residents. I am very happy my mother had her last years in a wonderful organisation. I know she was very content and was well cared far. I will always be grateful to Regis for this.
