COVID-19 VIC Family Update


Dear Families,

These are challenging times for all of us as the level of community transmission has continued at worrying levels in Victoria. As you know, numerous residential aged care homes now have confirmed cases of COVID-19.

We have one home, Regis Brighton, with a COVID-19 outbreak. There are currently fifteen residents and nine employees returning positive results. The affected residents are located in one wing of the Home. Advice from the Public Health Unit is that all of the current cases are related to the first exposure with an asymptomatic staff member.

Our team is in regular contact with the Victorian and Commonwealth Departments of Health and are strictly following all infection control procedures, including Personal Protective Equipment and regular cleaning throughout the day. We are in at least daily communication with Brighton residents and families to keep them updated on what is happening.

We continue our extensive efforts to keep our residents and employees safe. A key feature of the COVID-19 pandemic is how easily the virus can be passed on, both by people who are unwell with COVID-19 and by people who are feeling well and are unaware they have COVID-19. As a result, our Stringent Access Controls will remain in place for the time being. I encourage you to utilise our alternative connection opportunities to connect with your loved ones. This includes FaceTime, phone calls and our windows of connection.

As an additional safety measure, from Monday, aged care employees in Victoria will be required to work in a single site for at least the next eight weeks. This is to reduce the risk of aged care workers inadvertently spreading the virus between different aged care homes. We are working with our employees to make the necessary arrangements.

We continue to check in daily on our employees who have tested positive for COVID-19. We will continue to support these important frontline workers and recognise the impact of the pandemic on them and their families too. We are ensuring that employees are supported financially and emotionally. All messages of support are being passed on to these employees and have been received with much gratitude.
