At Regis Fawkner, winter is a time to embrace warmth, connection and culture, and last week, that spirit came to life through the delightful tradition of baking chestnut biscuits.

Chestnuts hold a special place in Italian winter cuisine, often featured in seasonal recipes that evoke memories of home and heritage. The kitchen was filled with the rich aroma of roasted chestnuts and the warmth of shared stories as residents worked side by side.

One of the participants reflected on the experience “Baking chestnut biscuits with the Ladies Club is one of those small joys that stays with you. It’s not just about the biscuits, though they are delicious, it’s about the laughter in the kitchen, the shared stories over mixing bowls, and the feeling of being part of something meaningful.”

The sentiment didn’t end there. “We come together not just to bake, but to bond, support each other, and create memories that linger long after the last crumb is gone.”

The Ladies Club was created as a way to bring residents together in a relaxed and welcoming environment offering a space to connect, share experiences and enjoy meaningful social interaction. What began as a monthly gathering quickly grew in popularity, and now takes place twice a month. With a smaller group setting, the sessions feel even more personal and engaging.

One of the most cherished activities is baking in the café, sharing recipes, exchanging tips, and reminiscing about past cooking experiences. It’s not just a fun activity, but a therapeutic one, offering both social enrichment and emotional wellbeing.

Moments like these highlight Regis Fawkner’s commitment to supporting not only physical wellbeing, but also emotional and cultural connection. The Ladies Club continues to offer residents a space to create, reminisce, and enjoy the richness of community life.
