At Regis Dandenong North, the diversity of our residents and team members creates opportunities for rich, personal connections. Vickie, a Personal Care Assistant of four years, brings warmth and understanding to her role, qualities that shine through in her relationships with residents and colleagues alike.

Her passion for aged care is evident in the relationships she’s built with residents and their families. Fluent in Serbian, Vickie has naturally formed close bonds with several residents who share her cultural background. For these residents, being able to communicate in their first language brings comfort and familiarity, helping them feel more at ease and engaged in daily life.

“The Serbian residents feel at home having someone who can fluently communicate with them. I always prioritise residents’ comfort and safety when assisting them with daily living. They tell me their cultural, spiritual and emotional needs are being met,” she says.

This kind of culturally responsive care contributes to better outcomes and a stronger sense of belonging. “I love to support all our residents with their clinical needs as well as their lifestyle engagements. I really enjoy the work I do.”

One resident, Danica, shares a particularly close bond with Vickie. “We have a connection that feels like family. She feels comfortable and safe talking to me, knowing I am non-judgmental and here to support her,” Vickie says.

Vickie provides unwavering support for her fellow peers as well, helping guide them so they can provide the best care for our residents. “The team respect me as a mentor and are open to feedback and suggestions, which makes working here a joy. I definitely recommend working for Regis.”

Vickie’s clinical excellence, cultural insight and compassionate approach make her a valuable member of the Dandenong North team. Her work supports individual residents and contributes to a more inclusive and responsive care environment.
