At Regis, we believe every client has a story worth celebrating. Dawn Campbell devoted most of her life to helping and educating others and now appreciates the care she receives from Regis Home Care.
Dawn began her career as a trained nurse and spent nine years serving in the mission field in Nepal. Upon returning to Australia, she pursued a teaching diploma and went on to educate future nurses at the Royal Women’s Hospital. Her passion for care and education led her to become a nurse educator, a role she held for several years before transitioning into aged care nursing.
After decades of service, Dawn retired in 1990. Though she never married or had children, she has been lovingly adopted into many families over the years, becoming a cherished grandma figure to a young boy who she loves and admires.
“Being part of a family is very important to me. I’ve been adopted several times and it’s always been a blessing,” she said.
For the past 27 years, Dawn has lived in a peaceful unit in Brisbane within a vibrant community with schools, a university, sports facilities and a large church.
“I’m very happy living here. It’s peaceful, surrounded by bushland and I have lovely neighbours who check in on me daily,” she said.
Despite increasing frailty, Dawn remains independent thanks to the home care support she receives.
“I’ve been using aged care support for three years and my health has improved. I get domestic help three times a week showering, cleaning, making the bed, even watering the garden. The girls are so good at what they do.”
Dawn has a very close relationship with Home Support Worker, Mukti, and often thanks her for allowing her to remain in her beloved home.
“I feel safer knowing I can get support when I need it and I’m very grateful for the help I receive.”
“Every day is a good day, some are better than others. I’m never lonely.”
With a strong church community, caring neighbours and dedicated home care support, Dawn continues to live a life filled with connection, purpose and gratitude.
