The idea for this year’s Regis WA Olympics came from the residents at Regis Port Coogee, who fondly remembered the fun of previous years’ events. In the past, three Homes joined in the celebration, but this time, residents had a bigger vision. When asked if they’d like to expand the event to include all Regis Homes across Western Australia, the answer was unanimous: “Everyone should be invited – it’s too much fun not to share!”
Six residents from each Home came together for a day of friendly competition and connection. The games included seated volleyball, bean bag toss, darts and a lively sports quiz. Every event was filled with energy and good humour, with residents cheering each other on and celebrating every effort.
While the games were a highlight, the real magic happened off the scoreboard. Residents formed new friendships, shared stories and even made plans to visit each other’s Homes in the future.
Resident Marjorie said “I enjoyed every minute of the day. I participated in all the games. It was nice to meet the residents of other Homes, I made a couple of friends, and I’ve already put my name down for the bus trip to Bunbury. The employees put in immense effort to create this wonderful day. I bet it wasn’t an easy job. At the end, all that matters is that everyone at the event was happy and had big smiles.”
Another resident Rhonda added “Thank you for a beautiful day. It was truly special to meet residents from other Homes. We all had an amazing time filled with joy, laughter and banter. I’m quite surprised to see all the employees coming together to create a beautiful memory for us!”
And Sheila captured the spirit of the day in just a few words “A beautiful day filled with celebration, connection and competition.”
The Regis WA Olympics is an event that brings people together, celebrates community and creates memories that last long after the games are over.
