At Regis Holland Park, Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator Sonia Ahmad is known for her warmth, creativity and commitment to making every day meaningful for residents. For nearly five years, Sonia has worked closely with residents to understand their stories, interests and preferences, ensuring that activities reflect what matters most to them.
Sonia believes that aged care is about more than providing support, it’s about building genuine relationships. “What I love most about working with older people is learning from their experiences. Their wisdom and resilience inspire me daily, and I find great satisfaction in supporting them to live with dignity and joy,” she says.
Sonia gets to know every resident at Regis Holland Park, so she can tailor lifestyle activities to their wants and needs. Sonia recently organised a “Show and Tell” activity where residents brought in a cherished item and shared the story behind them. It was an opportunity for everyone involved to express themselves and celebrate their life experiences. Sonia says moments like these are what make her role so rewarding.
Sonia is dedicated to creating these moments for residents, as she knows this is the secret to person-centred care. She’s organised many special experiences during her nearly five years of service, but one in particular stands out: helping a resident visit her family home. “She was so happy, reminiscing about all her cherished memories there. I felt proud knowing I could help her reconnect with such a meaningful part of her life.”
Sonia says her favourite part about working in aged care is the relationships and the life experience she is surrounded by. “What I love most about working with older people is building meaningful connections and learning from their experiences. Their wisdom and resilience inspire me daily, and I find great satisfaction in supporting them to live with dignity and joy.”
Sonia’s dedication reflects the heart of Regis: creating supportive environments where older Australians can live life on their terms. Her passion and commitment have recently been recognised through her nomination as a finalist in the Regis Care Awards for Excellence in Service & Support, a well-deserved acknowledgment of the positive impact she makes every day.
“I feel proud because this nomination recognises not just my work, but the efforts of our entire team. We all put our hearts into what we do, and being acknowledged reminds me how meaningful our roles are in bringing comfort, joy, and dignity to our residents.”
