Home Care Fees and Charges Explained

Understanding Home Care Fees

If you’re considering home care, it’s important to understand how fees work and what you may be asked to contribute.

In Australia, in-home aged care is primarily delivered through two government-funded programs. The amount you pay will depend on the support you receive and your individual circumstances.

At Regis, we’re here to help you navigate your options and feel confident about your care.

Two Types of Government-Funded Home Care

Depending on your needs, you may receive support through one of two programs:

Your assessment through My Aged Care will determine which program you are eligible for. Regis can help arrange this assessment for you, and guide you through the process. Or, you can contact the Aged Care Assessment team (ACAT) yourself via the My Aged Care website, or call 1800 200 422.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

This program is designed for people who need entry-level support to stay independent at home. Typically suits people with lower needs or occasional support. It includes Allied Health & Therapy Services, Community connections and wellness services and in-home care services.

  • Services are subsidised by the Government
  • A Small co-contribution may apply, depending on the service.

Support at Home

The Support at Home program is designed for people with more complex or ongoing care needs. It covers services such as personal care, nursing, allied health, and help around the home.

  • Funding is allocated based on your individual care needs (classification levels)
  • Essential clinical care is fully covered by the government.
  • Independence services and Everyday living services may be partially or fully covered by the government, the amount you will need to contribute to the service will depend on your financial situation, as assessed by Services Australia.

This program was launched in November 2025, and replaced the previous Home Care Packages. Anyone on a Home Care Package automatically transitioned to a Support at Home package.

Services and applicable costs are set per state, see your specific location for the fees and charges guide for your area.

How Much Will You Pay?

The amount you will need to contribute will depend on:

  • The program you’re eligible for (CHSP or Support at Home)
  • The type of care and support you receive
  • Your financial situation (as assessed by Services Australia)

Services Australia will let you and your Home Care provider know how much of the service cost you need to pay.

Contributions are designed to be reasonable and affordable.
