Support at Home packages

If you need ongoing care and support, you may be eligible for the Support at Home program. You receive a quarterly budget that is linked to your Support at Home classification, which is set through your aged care assessment. Your support plan records your approved services. For some services, you make a participant contribution based on your income and assets.

You can find out more about the Support at Home program on the My Aged Care website: www.myagedcare.gov.au

To be eligible for a Support at Home Package, you must typically be aged 65 or over, or 50 or over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and need support to live independently at home. If you’re 65 or over, you may be eligible for government-funded Home Care.

Home Care help FAQs
  • Why is in-home care changing?

The Government created Support at Home in response to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety. This new program aims to simplify aged care, improve quality and help older Australians access services more easily.

  • What fees will I pay under Support at Home?

Support at Home introduces new participant contributions based on the type of care you receive. The program divides services into three funding categories:

    • Clinical supports (e.g. nursing, physiotherapy)
      • Clients will make no contribution for Clinical support services such as nursing and physiotherapy. The government fully funds these services through your package.
    • Independence supports (e.g. personal care)
      • Clients will make moderate contributions for Independence services such as personal care, products and equipment under the AT-HM scheme.
    • Everyday Living supports (e.g. cleaning, gardening)
      • Clients will make the highest contributions for Everyday Living services such as domestic assistance and gardening.

Your contribution depends on your financial situation, whether you receive a full or part Age Pension or you are a self-funded retiree.

If you received a Home Care Package or had approval before Thursday 12 September 2024, the Government will apply a ‘no-worse-off’ principle. You will pay the same or less under Support at Home, even if your support level increases later on.

  • Why do I need Home Care?
  • When will the changes start?

The Support at Home program starts on Saturday 1 November 2025.

While the structure changes, the goal remains the same: to support you to live safely, independently and with confidence at home.

  • How do I apply for Support at Home?

If you are new to in-home aged care, you will need to complete an assessment to join the Support at Home program. Here is how it works:

    1. Make a Referral
      • Visit myagedcare.gov.au
      • or call 1800 200 422 to request an assessment
    2. Complete a Care Assessment
      • A trained assessor will contact you, either in person, over the phone or online, to understand what support you need day-to-day.
    3. Receive a Support Level
      • Based on your needs, you will receive one of eight ongoing support levels or one of two short-term pathways.
    4. Create a Care Plan
      • A Regis Care Partner will help you design a care plan tailored to your lifestyle, goals and preferences.

  • What Home Care services are near me?

Regis offers Home Care services across Australia within the following areas:

    • Cairns
    • Townsville
    • Darwin
    • Melbourne
    • Mildura
    • Launceston
    • Hobart

With Regis Home Care, staying at home is easier than you might have thought. Let us support you to live your best life at home.

  • How does Support at Home differ from the Home Care Package program?

Support at Home introduces a more flexible, transparent approach to funding and care. Key changes include:

    • Quarterly Budgets
      • You will receive your funding in four quarterly payments, based on your support level.
    • Eight Ongoing Support Levels and Two Short-Term Pathways
      • You will access more tailored care that aligns with your needs.
    • Upfront Funding for Home Modifications and Assistive Technology
      • You will not need to reserve funds in your care budget for these services.
    • Capped Care Management Costs
      • A set portion of your funding covers your ongoing support from a Regis Care Partner.
    • Pay-as-you-go Contributions
      • You will only contribute to services you actually use. For example, if you receive two hours of personal care, you will pay a set contribution per hour.

    Your contribution rate depends on:

    • The type of service (e.g. clinical services attract lower contributions)
    • Your financial position, including Age Pension status and whether you hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card.

  • Why should I consider Support at Home?

Support at Home puts you at the centre of your care. Whether you need help with everyday activities, clinical care or assistive equipment, the program makes it easier to access services that match your individual needs.

    At Regis, we will:

    • • Help you understand how Support at Home works
    • • Guide you through the assessment process
    • • Work with you to create a plan that supports your health, independence and wellbeing

  • Will I need a new assessment under Support at Home?

Support at Home replaces the four Home Care Package levels with:

    • Eight ongoing funding levels
    • Two short-term care pathways:
      • Restorative Care Pathway
      • End-of-Life Pathway
    • Three funding tiers for the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme

If your current Home Care Package meets your needs, you don’t need a new assessment. But if your needs change, let us know. We will review your current Care Plan and, if needed, arrange a reassessment to match you with a more appropriate support level.
