When Dawn celebrated her 96th birthday, she was surrounded by some of her favorite people from all the different parts of her life.
Family, friends and members of the Regis Home Care team came together to help Dawn mark the milestone, reflecting something that has remained important to Dawn throughout her life, staying connected to the people around her.
“Being part of a family is very important to me. I’ve been adopted several times and it’s always been a blessing,” Dawn said.
Dawn never married or had children, but over the years she has become part of many families. She has also built a strong community around her Brisbane home, where she has lived for 27 years, with support from her church community and he Regis Home Care team helping her remain independent.
“I’m very happy living here. It’s peaceful, surrounded by bushland and I have lovely neighbours who check in on me daily,” she said.
For Dawn, remaining at home means continuing to be part of the relationships and community she has built around her. Through Regis’ Support at Home, Dawn receives support with everyday tasks around the house, giving her the confidence to continue enjoying life in the place she knows and loves.
“I feel safer knowing I can get support when I need it and I’m very grateful for the help I receive,” she said.
Her 96th birthday brought many of those connections together, with the Regis Home Care team joining Dawn’s family and friends to celebrate the milestone.
“Every day is a good day, I’m never lonely.”
