New to the aged care sector, Mukti Sharma has discovered a deep sense of purpose in her role as a Home Support Worker with Regis Home Care in Brisbane.
“I chose to work in aged care because I genuinely care for people. Helping others connect and achieve their goals brings me joy,” she said.
Over the past eight months, Mukti has built a strong bond with her client, Dawn, describing her as a kind-hearted woman who’s become more than just someone she supports.
“Dawn is lovely. If I ever need help or don’t understand something, Dawn is always there for me.”
Mukti’s day-to-day work is varied and meaningful. From assisting with daily tasks like making the bed, preparing tea and helping with showers, to watering plants and accompanying clients to medical appointments, her role is all about making life easier for those she supports.
She also helps with shopping and groceries, ensuring her clients maintain independence in their own homes. One moment that stands out for Mukti is when a client told her:
“Mukti, you are so kind and dedicated to your work. I really appreciate you. I’m able to stay in my home because you come every day to support me.”
“It made me feel so proud. It’s a good feeling knowing I’m making a difference,” she reflected.
Support from her team has been a key part of Mukti’s positive experience. She credits her managers for being approachable and always ready to help.
“My managers are amazing. Whenever I need support, they’re there. Regis provides great training and flexibility, which has helped me so much.”
For Mukti, the emotional connections she’s formed with clients are what make her job truly rewarding.
“I absolutely love my job. It’s fulfilling, and I’ve built strong emotional bonds with the clients I care for.”
