The Regis Chef’s Table is an initiative designed to further incorporate resident’s preferences and ideas into their everyday lives. Held on the last Wednesday of each month, the Chef’s Table is the culmination of resident-chef collaboration, as they brainstorm and design a themed menu.

This month at Regis Oxley (Qld), resident Anne led the idea for a Greek-themed menu.

The home’s General Manager Richard Kemp shared: “Anne had really been missing her Greek cuisine and cooking, so she helped us design the menu for our chefs table and supplied some of the recipes from her family recipe book.”

Before moving into aged care, the kitchen was Anne’s happy place. She baked regularly and always had big boxes of her kourabiedes, finikia and paksimathia in her pantry. Anne always shared her baked goods generously, with family and friends.

The Chef’s Table experience emulated that, and for Anne, it was about sharing her passion for cooking with the people she loves.

“I really enjoyed making the Greek shortbreads and it was great to have a cooking demo in the home. I am very grateful that my family were there to share it with me,” she said.

Anne’s daughter said the day was a special one for her mum.

“She felt so special, in consulting her about the menu and then in doing the kourabiedes demonstration. It was very special, as Mother was in her element back in the kitchen, I found it very emotional.”

At Regis, we know every resident comes to aged care with unique stories, preferences and goals. For Anne, moving into aged care wasn’t about leaving her passions behind, but finding new ways to continue them with the support and care she needs to thrive.
