At Regis Camberwell, residents were recently encouraged to take on a meaningful role or activity within the Home. When this opportunity arose, Anne put her hand up to run the library. She has now been caring for the Regis Camberwell library for the past six months, drawing on her love of reading and strong knowledge of books.
Anne has developed her own system, introducing a library register and sorting books by genre and alphabetical order. As a highly organised person, Anne enjoys sorting, labelling and lending books to fellow residents. She’s motivated by helping them discover a new favourite read. “It gives me a strong sense of purpose to help others and see them enjoy reading,” she says.
Anne explains there is a lot of variety at Regis Camberwell’s library; “a good mix of different genres enjoyed by residents.” However, if asked to recommend just one book, she would say The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. It’s one of her favourites, where characters experience alternate versions of life, forcing them to confront what truly matters.
Anne enjoys sharing her passion for books with others. “I love seeing people get excited about reading, and it’s rewarding to be able to support others in finding the right book,” she shared.
Regis Camberwell’s Lifestyle Coordinator, Komal, says Anne’s experience with the library is an amazing example of empowering residents through purpose. She says, “Anne expressed interest in running the Home library. She now looks after their book collection, supports others with their reading interests and assists residents in enjoying our newly introduced audiobooks.”
Anne’s dedication to the library helps enhance the lives of her fellow residents, creating a warm and welcoming space.
