For those at Regis Camberwell, Don is a very familiar face. Having moved in shortly after the Home opened, he is now considered part of the furniture.
“I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and the physiotherapist asked me if I’d move so they could keep an eye on me. I was happy to do that and the next thing I know they’ve found this beautiful Home for me.”
Don enjoys the spacious environment that the Home provides and is often found in his favorite reading nook, the library, or enjoying meals with friends.
“I’ve found there’s a lot of friendly people here. The mealtimes are a community time, the food is good and we’re free to mingle and sit with anyone we like,”
When he was younger, Don enjoyed playing baseball and being active outdoors.
“I did quite well at the time, but I’m too old for that now. These days I enjoy going on bus trips and outdoor activities. I’m never short on things to do here.”
Since settling in, Don has developed strong relationships with the employees through their day-to-day care and general chats in the hall.
“The employees have been excellent. They’re friendly and always concerned about me and my condition. They give me helpful reminders for medications, and I’ve found that there’s always someone wanting to talk to me.”
For those considering aged care, Don says Regis Camberwell would be his first choice.
