The social spark between Regis Ferny Grove and Regis The Gap has been glowing for years, from their legendary Men’s Group lunches to friendly sporting showdowns. This time, they added something new to the calendar a Yoga Ball Drumming session that had everyone bouncing and smiling.

Regis Ferny Grove hosts a weekly session with 18 enthusiastic drummers, while Regis The Gap hosts smaller, more frequent ones. This was the first time drummers from both Homes came together for one big session. Two residents who are new to aged care joined in and felt welcome right away.

Each home came prepared with their favourite songs, delighting in old favourites and discovering new music. The energy was electric.  Lifestyle team members danced to “Zorba the Greek,” while residents drummed through a fun 90-minute session that left everyone smiling and a little sweaty!

Resident Margaret D was amazed at how her body just knew how to drum, no instructions needed, just pure instinct. Margaret N, trying the group for the first time, was instantly hooked. Her smile said it all.

A yoga drumming regular, Maureen shows up 30 minutes early every week, just to soak in the atmosphere and chat with her fellow drummers. And Bill just lights up when “Sweet Caroline” hits, and now he’s a proud fan of the remix too.

Faces were serious during the drumming, pure focus, but once the final beat dropped, it was all smiles, high fives and happy chatter. Lifestyle Coordinator Vicki from Regis The Gap summed it up perfectly: “Our residents returned home with beaming smiles all round.”

At Regis, activities like Yoga Ball Drumming are more than just fun, they help residents feel confident, connected and supported. By encouraging people to try new things, express themselves and enjoy time together, Regis creates spaces where residents can truly be themselves.
