Each August, Brisbane celebrates EKKA Day, a public holiday that marks the Royal Queensland Show. The EKKA brings together the city and country with agricultural displays, carnival rides and classic treats, creating a festive atmosphere that’s enjoyed by locals of all ages.

This year, Regis Homes across Brisbane embraced the EKKA spirit with events that brought residents, families and teams together. Across Regis Camp Hill, Regis Birkdale and Regis Holland Park, residents enjoyed cuddling farm animals, tasting fairy floss, dagwood dogs and taking part in games and activities.

At Regis Camp Hill, they made the day extra special with a joint event with Regis Ferny Grove. Residents from both Homes came together with their families to enjoy the festivities, creating a warm and lively atmosphere filled with shared stories and community spirit.

Regis Birkdale added a carnival twist to their celebration, complete with a balloon popping game and festive loot bags for residents. One family member shared, “It was spectacular and amazing. Well done to the team who prepared the event.”

At Regis Holland Park, the EKKA spirit was brought to life with a wide variety of food including pizzas, colourful popcorn and crispy hot chips. The Home also welcomed residents from Regis Chelmer and students from Holland Park State High School, creating meaningful intergenerational moments.

Residents shared their delight, with residents Adele, Jane and Gail saying, “We’d never tried a dagwood dog before but today was our first time and it was delicious!” Greta added, “I had fairy floss for the first time in 50 years,” and Valory expressed, “Spending time with the students was so special.”

Across all three Homes, EKKA Day was a celebration of shared experiences, community spirit and meaningful moments, a chance to bring the joy of the show right to the heart of each Regis community.
