Anamaria Kari is one of the many dedicated carers from Fiji who joined Regis Sunraysia in March as part of the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Aged Care Expansion (PALM ACE) scheme.

The scheme enables skilled workers from Pacific Island nations and Timor-Leste to contribute to Australia’s aged care sector, helping to address workforce shortages while offering participants career development and opportunities.

Anamaria brings warmth, compassion, and a deep commitment to the Home, all highly sought after values of Regis employees. She has already made a meaningful impact on our residents and fellow employees and has quickly adapted to life in Australia, finding joy in the sunshine and the supportive environment at Regis Sunraysia.

Anamaria’s journey to Australia was driven by her passion for caring for older people and supporting her family back home. Her experience as a community health worker in Fiji has fit in perfectly with the tight-knit Mildura community.

“I used to look after elderly people in my community. I told my husband I wanted to go overseas to work so I could support my family and my daughters’ education,”

“I’m overwhelmed and grateful to be here. It’s been wonderful meeting the residents and other employees at Regis Sunraysia,” she said.

Anamaria makes note of the diversity in her work, enjoying moving from ward to ward meeting and caring for different residents.

“I enjoy meeting different residents every day, learning what they like, and giving the best care I can. Working at Regis is an awesome experience.”

“The facilities here are amazing, and the residents are so well looked after with food, clothing and care. It’s very different from back home, where we’re still developing in aged care.”

Anamaria offers encouragement to others who may be considering a career in aged care.

“Make the most of it, it’s a great experience.”

We’re thrilled to have Anamaria as part of the Regis family and look forward to the continued contributions of PALM ACE participants in enriching our local aged care communities.
