Lunar New Year celebrations were in full swing across our homes this week! Tuesday marked the beginning of the Year of the Fire Horse, a powerful symbol of energy, independence and forward momentum.

There were smiles all around at Regis Tiwi as dragon dancers came in and performed for residents and employees. Everyone lit up at the show and greatly enjoyed celebrating Lunar New Year.

Regis Magnolia put on similar colourful celebrations. Resident Robert enjoyed the day alongside his wife. He said, “that was fantastic! What a beautiful cultural experience, so much colour and joy. Never thought I would see something like that here!”

Regis Inala Lodge also held celebrations with a variety of themed activities. An art and crafts session saw residents making red envelopes. Often called hóngbāo, the tradition symbolises good luck and blessings for the year ahead.

The Home also hosted a dance performance and tea party, where residents were served jasmine and oolong tea. Residents also sat down to watch The Great Magician, directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Derek Tung-Sing Yee.

It was a wonderful opportunity for residents to reflect on the Lunar New Year celebrations they have enjoyed throughout their lives, with resident Tian fondly remembering the red wine and feasts of his youth.

The celebrations brought everyone together, creating an inclusive atmosphere. Residents and employees from all backgrounds enjoyed each other’s company and shared a strong sense of belonging.
