For Paige, her role as a Home Support Worker isn’t just a job, it’s a perfect fit for her lifestyle as a mother with a young family. With the flexibility to choose her own schedule, Paige works four days a week, giving her precious time to spend with her daughter and husband.
“I can take my daughter to swimming lessons on my day off, and it means more time together as a family,” she shares. But it’s not only flexibility that makes the role rewarding for Paige, she also loves the one-on-one connections she builds with her clients.
“You get to know the clients personally. Some of them start to feel like family because you’re with them several hours a week.” she says. It’s relationships like these that offer a unique window into different generations and life experiences.
“It’s amazing what you learn, about motherhood, growing up in different times, and how time has changed.”
Paige notes that people often ask her why she chose aged care over childcare, and her answer is simple- because of the meaningful conversations and the opportunity to learn from her clients.
“They’re adults, you can talk to them, and they can teach you things. I like that it’s just you and the client, working together and building a connection.”
“Every day is different, even with my regular clients. People feel different day to day, and it’s important to be there for them, especially if they’re feeling a bit down. I pride myself on caring for them emotionally too.”
If you’re looking for a job that’s flexible, fulfilling, and makes a real difference, Home Care could be the perfect path. Like Paige, you might just find a role that fits into your life seamlessly, while making a small impact in the day to day lives of older Australians.
