Newsroom

Bronwyn Mitchell, volunteer at Regis Port Stephens, describes herself as a ‘volunteer addict’. She volunteers at four other organisations alongside Regis and is always happy to help those around her, whether it’s a neighbour, sibling or local community group.

Her journey in aged care began when a friend’s family member moved into care at Regis Port Stephens. Bronwyn visited as often as she could and started to build friendships with other residents and employees. Soon after she retired and became a volunteer. She says she’s “been loving it ever since!”

Bronwyn’s caring nature is evident in everything she does at Regis Port Stephens and she never hesitates to get stuck in. Bronwyn helps with the Home’s recycling program, going for walks with residents, tidying and organising the library and facilitating special events. She’s motivated by faces lighting up in her presence and values the relationships she has built with the residents. “I have connected with a couple of special people and appreciate the special relationships we have forged.  I love listening to their stories and helping them with things they cannot manage alone now.”

When talking about the team at Regis Port Stephens, the mutual respect between them and Bronwyn is evident. She says, “whatever I can do as a volunteer frees up the team to do their thing and further enhance lives of residents. I am happy to do whatever they need me to do.”

Bronwyn’s story is a wonderful reminder of the joy and purpose that volunteering can bring. It is also a warm invitation for others to discover the same by joining the Regis volunteer community.
