Mahjong is a game that combines strategy, skill and a bit of luck, making it both fun and mentally stimulating. At Regis Oxley, residents have been enjoying a self-directed Mahjong station, thoughtfully placed in the Memory Support Unit (MSU), for residents living with dementia, and the Lifestyle Room. This idea came from residents who were passionate Mahjong players before moving into aged care.

The Mahjong station has done more than provide entertainment, it has allowed residents to continue enjoying the activities they did before living in aged care. One resident in the MSU had a Mahjong table in storage and her family was encouraged to bring it in. This allowed her to keep enjoying a game she loves and share this love with others.

The team at Regis Oxley also helped resident Michael continue doing his passions in aged care. A former professional musician, Michael wanted to perform again in concert. Together, he worked with the team to put on a live concert and a ukulele session where 20 residents learned to play together.

As a newly commissioned home, Regis Oxley is committed to creating an inclusive environment where residents feel truly at home. Lifestyle activities like mahjong allow residents to live life on their terms and create the life they want for themselves. Learn more and explore everything Regis Oxley has to offer by visiting here.
