Regis Maroochydore may well be a long way from Germany, but that didn’t stop everyone celebrating Oktoberfest on Monday. Employees got into the spirit by dressing up in Bavarian pale blue and white or the flag colours — black, red and yellow.

Our musical entertainer Bob Grant was a big hit in his lederhosen and feathered hat, playing classic polkas and catchy tunes to sing along to. Everyone got involved in the Chicken Dance party song in some way, whether it be clapping, wriggling, chicken winging or simply laughing.

A selection of German food was on display including sauerkraut, giant pretzels, gherkins, mustard and a potato hash-brown mix. Residents did the cooking adding diced bacon for that extra flavour. Sausages were also on the menu. And the dessert was Black Forest cake. Of course.

Other German delicacies including cookies, chocolate dipped pastry biscuits (aka ‘pigs ears’) and savoury pretzels were also consumed.

At Regis Maroochydore, we embrace our little slice of German heritage, so then we switched things up with a game of German picture bingo, making the special day even more fun.

On 12 November, (because it’s Melbourne Cup time), we’re heading off to the races in Caloundra. And we can’t wait!
