At Regis Camp Hill, the Memory Support Unit (MSU) continues to be a nurturing space where residents living with dementia can engage in meaningful activities that support wellbeing and connection.
Recently, an in-house Op Shop was brought to life using donated items and lost property, recreating a familiar shopping experience in a safe and supportive setting. Residents were gently guided through the space by team members who encouraged conversation and connection around the items on display. Lifestyle Coordinator Joanne shared, “The op shop gave residents a chance to do something familiar in a way that felt relaxed and comfortable. It was lovely to see how certain items brought out stories or quiet moments of recognition.”
Another recent activity in the MSU was a lively karaoke morning where residents sang along to familiar favourites like “Country Roads”, “Sweet Caroline” and “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary”. These well-known tunes encouraged participation and supported memory recall and social interaction. The room was filled with energy, plenty of smiles, laughter and spontaneous singalongs.
Happy Hour in the MSU is also a regular Friday favourite, bringing residents together with a rotating lineup of entertainers. With a mix of music, conversation and community, these sessions offer a relaxed and enjoyable way to end the week.
These activities are designed to meet the unique needs of people living with dementia. By offering comfort, familiarity and meaningful engagement, they help residents in the MSU feel more at ease, more connected and more themselves.
