Regis Camp Hill recently welcomed a group of Japanese students from the Global Student Institute for a morning of shared activities and cultural exchange. Residents and students spent time together enjoying interactive experiences that encouraged conversation and engagement.

The morning began with introductions, followed by a series of interactive experiences designed to celebrate Japanese culture. Residents were invited to take part in traditional games and crafts, including Karuta, a fast-paced Japanese card game that encouraged some friendly competition. Origami and calligraphy stations offered moments of creativity, with students guiding residents through each fold.

One of the highlights was a lively version of Japanese rock, paper, scissors, which had everyone laughing and cheering. Residents also joined in singing “Hana wa Saku (Flowers Will Bloom),” a song that holds special meaning in Japan, and tried their hand at chopstick-grabbing challenges, an activity that proved both fun and surprisingly tricky.

Throughout the morning, residents shared stories from their own lives, asked questions about Japanese traditions and enjoyed the company of their young visitors. It gave residents the chance to learn something new, reflect on their own experiences and build meaningful moments with the students.

Events like this reflect the spirit of Regis Camp Hill, where residents are supported to stay engaged with the world around them and where community is built through shared experiences.
