Residents from Regis Mornington recently enjoyed a day at Frankston Beach, recognised as Australia’s most accessible beach. The visit offered a chance to enjoy the coastline in a space designed so people of all abilities can reach the water with confidence.
Frankston Beach has been transformed through the Australia’s Most Accessible Beach pilot program, delivered by Frankston City Council in partnership with Accessible Beaches Australia. The foreshore now features beach matting that extends to the water’s edge, free beach wheelchairs and walkers, shaded daybeds and a hoist to assist with transfers. The program also includes trained employees and volunteers who support visitors during their time at the beach.
For many residents, the visit offered moments they had not experienced for years. The accessible pathways meant everyone could enjoy the sand, the breeze, and the simple joy of being close to the water. The pilot program was created to ensure people with disability and older community members can enjoy the beach with ease.
This trip was especially wonderful for resident Mary, who used to be a beach regular. “This is my favourite place, down by the water,” she shares, “I could come here every day.”
For our Regis Mornington residents, the day was an opportunity to connect with the community, enjoy the summer weather and experience a beach environment designed for everyone.
