With a career at Regis Aged Care spanning 10 years, James Theofanis, Regional General Manager Victoria still says that “every day is different.” In November 2021, James was announced winner of the Outstanding Personal Leadership award as part of the National Regis Care Awards 2021. To James, every day is different because each day presents a new opportunity to grow professionally, develop his team and learn another life lesson from the residents he serves each day.

“I quickly fell in love with the sector and worked out fast that my own personal values aligned with the Regis Way and I haven’t looked back.”

For anyone wanting a career in the aged sector, give it go, it is incredibly rewarding and offers genuine opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life.”

Before starting at Regis, James had little knowledge about aged care and transitioned into the organisation to “try something new.” As James spent more of his working day interacting with residents, he learnt valuable life lessons. “We can never forget the path that was travelled by the residents in our care and the difference they have made. It’s an opportunity to say thanks, give back and to make a difference.”

While speaking with James, it’s clear that he is energised from the happiness of his residents and is passionate about supporting his team to be the best they can be.

“I love the interaction with our employees and residents. I really enjoy challenging my team and their thinking. I love watching individuals grow and develop into great leaders. This is certainly one of my passions and a legacy that I want to be known for.

I really enjoy working for Regis, I am grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me since joining. These opportunities have allowed me to grow personally and professionally, which has then allowed me to pass on that knowledge and experience to our leaders. It has been incredibly rewarding.”

With the National Regis Care Award trophy proudly positioned in his workspace, James reflected, “I’m humbled to have received the award. I love what I do, but more importantly, I feel honored that I am being recognised.”

James shared that it was a special moment for him to celebrate his award with his team, residents at Regis East Malvern and fellow award winner Gary Mina for Outstanding Dementia Care.

JAMES’ NOMINATION FOR THE 2021 NATIONAL REGIS CARE AWARDS

Those that have worked with James Theofanis have nothing but praise to share about his infectious passion and commitment to the industry. James is known for his ability to support teams and maximise their potential in challenging circumstances. He continues to demonstrate the Regis values while managing his teams throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, especially at Regis Brighton during their outbreak. James has an incredible ability to help people around him stay focused while under pressure. James provided hands-on support and unwavering commitment to the team at Brighton by providing guidance and direction through a challenging time, which was also a personal risk and sacrifice to him.

James has a wealth of knowledge, positive energy, a calm and consistent approach, and importantly a focus on achieving the best outcomes for residents and teams. James works collaboratively with his teams to motivate them to achieve their best. He is also an influential leader across Regis and not only a great support for his team, but his peers and colleagues across the business, being a mentor to many.
