Residents and volunteers at Regis Yeronga in Queensland recently came together to support The Beanie Project for Mamuke Acts of Hope Initiative, which helps children living in poverty in Zambia access education, nutrition and essential school supplies.
With one of the Home’s dedicated volunteers, Jennifer Gahan, soon travelling to Zambia to deliver donations, residents wanted to support this meaningful cause.
As well as knitting beautiful handmade beanies for Jennifer to deliver, they collected donations of essential school supplies including school bags, coloured pencils, pencils, erasers and sharpeners.
The project brought residents out of their rooms and into a common space to socialise over shared passions of knitting and charity.
Regis Yeronga’s Lifestyle Coordinator, Rumi Dhungel, said the enthusiasm, teamwork and generosity of the residents and volunteers throughout the project was wonderful to witness.
“It has been heart-warming to see our community come together to support children on the other side of the world.”
The Beanie Project reinforced the value of community engagement, giving residents an opportunity to connect and experience a strong sense of purpose.
