Residents, employees and families across our homes gathered for Remembrance Day to reflect and commemorate Australian soldiers who have served our country in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

Regis Birkdale’s residents, loved ones and team members gathered in the cinema for a service. This was followed by several residents sharing memories and stories of loved ones who had served, sharing memorabilia and photos. Afterwards, residents enjoyed tea, coffee and Anzac biscuits while reflecting on the significance of the day.

Residents at Regis Sandgate Musgrave also held a service, which was especially meaningful for those who had served in the army or had a personal connection to Remembrance Day. Among them were Peter and Betty, whose family members, including husbands, fathers and grandfathers, were soldiers. Their shared experiences have helped them form a close friendship, and they often check in on each other and attend activities together.

Resident Kerry, who laid the wreath at Regis Sandgate Musgrave, was emotional sharing his stories about his family, particularly about his father and grandfather who served in World War I and II.

At Regis Sandgate Lucinda, residents handed out poppies and program booklets. A wreath was laid, and resident Pam lit the candle to signify remembrance, hope and the enduring memory of those who have lost their lives. Residents Cecelia, Mary and Tina gave readings, reflecting on their own experiences. Bagpipe players joined to play at the service. Resident Dorothy reflected, “it was lovely, and having the bagpipes playing just made it perfect.”

By honouring Remembrance Day, we not only pay tribute to those who served but also create moments of connection and shared identity that help create a sense of belonging for all our people.
