When Debra Turner started at Regis Norwood 30 years ago, the place looked a little different. No phones, no Wi-Fi and plenty of VHS tapes queued up for an afternoon movie.

Debra fell into aged care somewhat by chance. She first heard about a role in the Home’s kitchen through a family member and soon later met with the Home’s chef, landing her the job.

As it was her first job in nine years, Debra’s first day at Regis Norwood was incredibly daunting. However, she soon realised she had nothing to worry about, quickly settling into life in the Home.  After just nine months in the kitchen, she moved to a cleaning and laundry role.

A short time after that, Debra then moved on to working as a Personal Care Assistant and has stayed in this role for many of her years with Regis. She credits her long service to the people around her, who make the working environment a positive place to be every day. She says, “I have stayed all these years because I love working with residents and have made great friends here.”

Looking back over the past 30 years, Debra’s noticed the biggest difference in technology. Compared to the manual systems of the mid-nineties, today’s processes are far more digitised, streamlining care and giving employees more time with residents.

To anyone considering working in aged care, Debra says compassion and patience are key.

Congratulations Debra on this amazing service milestone!
