More than four decades after they first met, Charles and Sheila are still sharing laughs, making memories and enjoying life side by side.

For the couple, who now call Regis Armadale in Victoria home, love and companionship remain just as important today as they were when they met at a New Year’s Eve party 41 years ago.

A love story that started later in life

Introduced by a mutual friend, Charles and Sheila met after both had experienced first marriages. Neither could have known that one introduction would lead to more than four decades together.

One of their favourite memories is also one of their funniest.

After marrying in Melbourne, the couple discovered five years later that their marriage hadn’t been recognised under their religious tradition.

“They told us we’d been living in sin for five years,” Sheila laughs.

It’s a story they still love sharing, bringing a smile to both their faces.

Still sharing life’s moments

Now living in aged care, Charles and Sheila continue to enjoy spending time together, sharing stories and making new memories.

Their relationship has carried them through decades of change, from the lives they led before meeting to the experiences they continue to share today.

And after 41 years, they still find plenty to laugh about.

Still captivated

To continue recognising International Day of Older Persons, Charles and Sheila’s story celebrates the love and companionship that remain an important part of who they are.

While much has changed over the years, their connection to one another hasn’t.

They’re still captivated by each other.
