The day out to Tesselaar Tulip Festival for residents from Regis Armadale began with a bus trip winding through the picturesque Dandenong ranges. The atmosphere in vehicle was electric and the lush greenery  prompted memories for those who had driven around the area throughout the years.

At the tulip farm grounds, everyone strolled alongside the garden beds, delighting in a scene straight out of the Wizard of Oz: rows of flowers from every colour of the rainbow.

Many of the residents took a special interest in the flowers, as keen gardeners themselves. Some people also used the day out as an excuse to flaunt their photography skills, snapping pictures with a digital camera.

For one resident in particular, Brewster, the trip was especially meaningful, as he used to attend the tulip festival every year with his father. “I remember it being bigger all those years ago,” he laughed, acknowledging that childhood memories can play tricks. Still, he added, “Everyone enjoys it.”

It wasn’t just the resident’s eyes that were treated at the festival, as they enjoyed a delicious picnic and heard live music from local artists. Turkish and Dutch culture was also celebrated at the farm, with lots of traditional food, dress and sights for residents to appreciate.

Putting their feet up, everyone then took a small train ride around the farm. Whilst enjoying the views, residents shared a laugh over a screaming child, prompting funny comments about turning down hearing aids and prayers for silence.

As they piled back onto the bus, the residents reflected on a day filled with old memories and creating new ones. This was Regis Armadale’s second year visiting the tulip festival and after such success, it is sure not to be the last.
