Like many people, Valerie had hesitations before moving in to aged care. But, since coming to call Regis Lutwyche her home, she’s “fallen in love with the place.”

Valerie worked in accounting for law firms until she was 83, and is a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Now, she keeps busy playing bingo and chess with friends and the friendly team at Regis Lutwyche. She also teaches mahjong to anyone who is interested, she says this is something she really enjoys. Keeping active and involved, Val takes full advantage of the library at Regis Lutwyche, reading at least two books every week.

She is close with the team at Regis Lutwyche and says they are “absolutely wonderful” and “every one of them treats [her] like a queen.” Being surrounded by such close connections enhances everyday life for Valerie and means she is never short of a friend to enjoy lunch with or a chess partner to compete against.

Val’s story is part of our See Me program, which highlights the personal passions and life experiences of our residents. Through See Me, Regis recognises the individuality of each person and the meaningful ways they express themselves. Valerie’s passion for teaching others reflects her lifelong curiosity. Her story shows that independence and joy thrive at Regis, and every resident has something special to share.
