Residents and employees at Regis Lutwyche recently celebrated Carnevale, the celebration right before Lent. Although Venice hosts the most famous Italian Carnevale events with street parties, music and dancing, parades and festivals are held across Italy and around the world, each with its own traditions.

A quarter of Regis Lutwyche’s residents are Italian, but this celebration brought everyone in the Home together for the annual masquerade parade.

Residents and employees dressed up in colourful clothing and donned intricate masks. Italian folk music played as the residents paraded, cheering each other along.

They also celebrated with an Italian singalong, before enjoying morning tea together. Italian treats were served, from cannoli to biscotti.

Resident Concetta shared what the morning meant to her when she said, “it was a beautiful morning where we all came together and celebrated as one.”

Celebrations like Carnevale not only honour cultural traditions but also help create a sense of belonging, bringing everyone at Regis Lutwyche closer together as a community.
