Cakes, candles and celebrations were the order of the day last week at Regis Torquay as everyone in the Home came together to celebrate Norma’s 100th birthday!

Norma was joined by family members to mark the milestone, including her two granddaughters who travelled from Queensland for the big day.

Residents and employees decorated the Home for the party, including balloons, flowers and a custom sign. Everyone enjoyed an afternoon tea complete with sandwiches, pastries, birthday cake and a dash of champagne.

Norma said it was a wonderful party, and was delighted that everyone came to celebrate her. She said, “I can’t believe everyone is here for me!”

It was no surprise to everyone in attendance however, as Norma is a well-loved member of the Home’s community. In her almost six years of residence, she’s become known for her chatty and kind nature. She’s always the first one in line for musical activities and is a keen animal lover. Norma adores dogs and never misses the chance to give plenty of pats whenever someone brings a furry friend to the Home.

Norma’s earlier life was similarly marked by a love of animals, growing up she was always surrounded by horses. She described herself as an adventurous child who made her own entertainment outdoors. In her 20s, she bought a small sailing boat with a friend. The pair loved sailing off Sandringham beach with Norma’s dog, Rolly, on board.

Now, at 100, Norma’s youthful spirit remains. When asked about the milestone, she said with a wink, “I can’t be 100 because I’m too young!”
