A group of residents from Regis Nedlands in Western Australia enjoyed a day out recently, heading to Perth Zoo to explore the exhibits and see the animals up close.

For resident Joy, the outing was a fun opportunity to do something she had not done for a long time. She shared her delight, saying, “I couldn’t remember the last time I went to the zoo! I feel so happy, it was such a lovely day.”

Residents spent the day admiring a wide variety of animals, from Australian natives to creatures from across the globe. For resident Aurora, the visit was a chance to spend time with friends while learning something new. “The group really enjoyed the experience,” she said, “the guides at Perth Zoo were very helpful and caring, sharing lots of interesting information.”

The group explored the zoo in the Zebra Car, a themed, golf‑cart‑style vehicle that allows visitors with accessibility needs to enjoy the park.

For Aurora, the highlight of the day was clear. “We were able to see many animals up close,” she shared, “my favourite moment was seeing a big turtle with a small bird on its back. It was so cute!”

For resident Audrey, the African animals stood out most. “Seeing the zebras and giraffes was beautiful,” she shared. “I’m so glad I had the opportunity to visit the zoo.”

The outing was a wonderful reminder that there are always opportunities to keep learning and enjoy new experiences whilst living in aged care.
