Five Regis Homes across Queensland joined forces last week for the Biggest Morning Tea, with residents, team members and families gathering at Regis Chelmer to support the Cancer Council.

Participants travelled from Regis Yeronga, Regis Holland Park, Regis The Gap and Regis Salisbury to take part in the event, featuring a Cancer Council guest speaker who outlined the importance of early detection and detailed support available for those who need it. The morning tea created space for residents and employees to reflect on their own experiences with cancer, an experience many in the room had in common.

Regis Chelmer resident Beverley shared her journey with breast cancer alongside the guest speaker, offering both honesty and reassurance.

“I wanted to encourage open conversations about cancer and let others know they’re not alone,” Beverley said. “If sharing my experience can offer even a little hope or connection to someone going through something similar, then it’s worth it. It’s also so important for women not to be afraid to get checked.”

A lifestyle team member, Sheila from Regis Chemler, also reflected on her mother’s experience with cancer, highlighting the lasting impact it has had on her family.

“The day was meaningful to me because I’ve seen how important family support is during times like this. Being able to come together and support each other makes a difference,” Sheila said.

Bringing multiple homes together extended that sense of connection, giving residents the opportunity to share and see their own experiences reflected in others. It was not just about raising awareness, but about recognising the people behind the experience.

Moments like this show the role community plays in wellbeing at Regis, offering a chance for residents to stay connected to causes that are important to them.

The morning closed with conversations lingering over tea, and a shared understanding that no one is alone in their experience.
