At Regis Aged Care, the Empowering Through Purpose program supports residents to take an active role in daily life.
The program focuses on creating opportunities for residents to use their skills, interests and life experience in ways that feel meaningful to them and valuable to the home community.
At Regis Lutwyche in Queensland, resident Iris, working alongside the Home’s Lifestyle Coordinator Helen, has been leading a poppy making project in the lead up to ANZAC Day.
Drawing on her background as a teacher and her lifelong love of craft, Iris prepares materials, supports other residents to get involved and contributes to how shared spaces are presented across the home.
“I love to be useful and to fill my day,” Iris said. “I am grateful for something special to work on. It gives me purpose.”
For Iris, the project is about being involved, contributing and helping others take part.
The Empowering Through Purpose program supports residents to take on roles that reflect who they are. It recognises capability, independence and choice, allowing residents to remain connected and involved in daily life within the home.
As homes prepare for ANZAC Day, initiatives like this show how individual contributions can shape shared experiences, creating moments that feel meaningful for residents and employees.
